James Dean (Jim) Hanson
Services for James Dean (Jim) Hanson, 74, of Vandalia were at 10 a.m., Saturday at
Bienhoff Funeral Home in Laddonia with Pastor Randall Kristofferson officiating. Burial was
in Vandalia City Cemetery.
Visitation was Friday from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Hanson died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico.
He was born Jan. 21, 1934 in Newton, Iowa, the son of Lee Jordan and Merle Elizabeth
Sullivan Hanson. He was married to Donna Beedle on June 3, 1956 in Vandalia. She
survives.
Other survivors include a son, Scott Hanson and wife, Heather of Vandalia; one daughter,
Kim Hanson, Jefferson City; one brother, Bob Hanson and wife, Fern of Vandalia and two
grandsons, Rylee and Ryen Hanson of Vandalia.
Mr. Hanson was a life-long Vandalia area resident and member of the First Baptist Church
of Vandalia. He was a 1952 graduate of Farber High School. Mr. Hanson served in the
United States Army from 1956-58 and attained the rank of sergeant. He was a farmer and
worked at the MFA Exchange for 33 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed playing with
his grandsons, hunting and going to deer camp.
Pallbearers were Jim Rentfro, Jeff Wright, Dick Hammett, Gary Branstetter, Tim Luebrecht
and Doug Wood. Honorary pallbearers were Leon Dempsey, Merle James and Ramon
Barnes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vandalia First Baptist Church Food Pantry or
the Vandalia Firefighters Fund.
