Mary Strode
Funeral services for Mary Louise Strode, 80, of Louisiana will be held at l p.m. Tuesday
(today) at the First Baptist Church in Louisiana. The Rev. Ben Teague will officiate. Burial
will be in the Barkley Cemetery in New London.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana.
Mrs. Strode died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 at her home in Louisiana.
She was born March 14, 1928 in Hannibal to Grover Cleveland and Edith Mitchell Taylor.
She married William Frank Strode Nov. 10, 1946 in Indiana. He survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Charles Strode and wife, Karla of Hannibal, Daniel
Strode and wife, Mary Beth of New London, Larry Strode and wife, Kathy of New London
and Robert Strode and wife, Vicki of Wentzville and one daughter, Julie Reese of
Warrenton; nine grandchildren, Dr. Daniel Strode, Jr. and wife, Tara of Columbia,
Jeremiah Strode and wife, Michelle of Moberly, Joseph Strode and wife, Crissy of
Hannibal, Arena Baxter and husband, Mark of New London,  Melissa Williams and
husband, Will of Hannibal, Amanda Briscoe and husband, Philip of New London, Caleb
Wuertenberg of Warrensburg, William Reese of Warrenton and Taylor Strode of
Wentzville; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lela Gertrude Waid of Olean, Doris
Jane Holiday and husband, George of Mexico and Edna Faye Linnenburger and husband,
Louis of Galesburg, Ill.; three sister-in laws, Helen Taylor of Overland, Emily Musgrove of
St. Louis and Elizabeth Hawkins of Wentzville and one brother-in-law, Carl Leake of Perry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons, Jason Conrad Strode who
died in 1975 and Lawrence (Larry) Taylor, Jr. who died in 1995, three brothers, Hershel
Oliver Taylor, Harry Harlan Taylor and William Mitchell Taylor and one sister, Rhoda
Rebecca Leake.
Mrs. Strode had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisiana for 57 years and
served as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years. She had served as a den mother for the
Cub Scouts, 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Nightingale Chapter #117. Had
been active in the Khoury league with her boys and had been very active with her children
and grandchildren during their school years.
She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She loved to cook and do
needlework.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, members of the Paul Laugher Sunday School
class, Ray Trost, and Robby Griego. Active pallbearers will be Robert H. Ince, Don Ince,
Gale Elledge, James T. Griffith, Jr., John Burton and Raymond Spotanski.
