Gladys Logan Zumbehl
Gladys Zumbehl, 91, of Middletown, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008 at the Audrain Medical
Center in Mexico.
Funeral services were held at noon on Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in rural
Wellsville. The Rev. Garry McCracken officiated and interment was in Fairmount
Cemetery in Middletown.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the Trinity Lutheran
Church.
She was born April 14, 1917 in Wheeling to Wesley George Shafer and Maude Marie
Thomas Shafer. Gladys married A.W. Logan on Sept. 13, 1941 in Montgomery City. Mr.
Logan preceded her in death in January of 1970. Gladys later married Ralph Deitrich
Zumbehl of Middletown on Feb. 6, 1971 in Wellsville. Mr. Zumbehl also preceded her in
death on Jan. 22, 2003.
Mrs. Zumbehl was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Wellsville and also a
member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. She enjoyed embroidering, gardening,
working in her yard, and most of all enjoyed working on the farm.
She is survived by six stepchildren, Joan Brengle, St. Peters, Howard Zumbehl and wife,
Nancy of New Bloomfield, Roy Zumbehl and wife, Jean of Auxvasse, David Zumbehl and
wife, Goldie of Jefferson City, Sharon Bishop and husband, Harry of Middletown, and
Donnie Zumbehl of Benton City; 23 stepgrandchildren; and numerous stepgreat-
grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Zumbehl is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Frances
Logan of Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Some of the nieces and
nephews include Helen Renner of Wellsville, Mary and Ernie Powell of Wellsville, Sandra
and Kenneth Fussner of O’Fallon, Judy and James Gentry of Mexico, Arthur and Mary Ann
Shafer of Hatton, Laura and Roy Williams of Centralia, Marie Richard of Port Orchard,
Wash., Michael and Nancy Shafer of Fairbanks, Alaska, Shirley Rathjen and Vince and
Betty Logan.
Mrs. Zumbehl was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, A.W. Logan and Ralph
Deitrich Zumbehl; one brother, Lawrence Wesley Shafer; and sister, Vera Mae Fennewald.
Casketbearers were Kenneth Fussner, Chuck Bishop, Todd Zumbehl, Tom Richards, Cory
Zumbehl, Marc Zumbehl, Ted Schulte and Adam Rucker.
