Six Girls To Vie For Pike County Fair Crown
Six young ladies from Pike County will compete in this year’s Pike County Fair Queen
Pageant on opening day, Tuesday, July 22.
This year the pageant will move outside to the small stage and will take place at 7:30 p.m.
The past few years the pageant has been in the main hall before the fair was underway.
Area 4-H clubs utilize the main hall for their display of exhibits throughout the week.
Including the pageant as an event during fair week meant finding a location.
The pageant will have the same format as in the past with personal interviews held with
the judges prior to the event. The pageant will begin with a short dance routine and
contestant introductions, followed by individual talent and evening gown competitions.
The scores will be tallied to determine three finalists with each being judged solely on their
answer to the final question to determine the queen. The fair board will give $500 to the
queen with the other contestant receiving prizes donated by local businesses. (Letters
were sent earlier in the year, but donations are welcome from any business or individual
wishing to support the pageant and are certainly appreciated as the girls spend many
hours preparing for the pageant.)
AVA Goldworks, of Hannibal, has generously donated the crown for the queen. In addition
to the title of queen, there will be a first runner-up, finalist, talent winner, evening gown
winner and Miss Congeniality, with each to receive additional prizes.
The queen will be expected to make an appearance at all major events and all contestants
will be presented their prizes at the opening of the main concert on Saturday evening (July
26) when the court is fully introduced.
