Former Bowling Green
Coach Charged With Forging Checks
Brenton Hannel, a former Bowling Green High School assistant basketball coach, was
formally charged last week with forging amounts on checks written for a basketball camp
this summer.
Police Chief Steve Kruse reports Hannel has been charged with two counts of class C
felony forgery. Bond was set at $10,000 with 10 percent cash or suriety by Judge David
Ash.
Hannel, a Kinderhook, Ill., resident posted bond and was released from custody. He
resigned his position with the R-I District shortly after the forged checks were discovered.
Individuals charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of
law.
